7 Bamboo Forests (That Are Not Arashiyama)

Bamboo is a quintessential part of Japanese culture, just like the red Torii gates, Mount Fuji, kimono and anime characters.

Any trip to Japan wouldn’t be complete without a visit to a slender green bamboo forest.

For most people, that would usually be the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest in Kyoto.

However, just like many other top Kyoto attractions, Arashiyama is so overrun with tourists, it’s hard to enjoy it. A leisurely stroll while listening to the rustle of bamboo leaves is no longer possible (unless you head off the beaten path).

However, there are alternative bamboo forests in Japan that are as beautiful as Arashiyama but far less crowded.

Here are 7 bamboo forests as recommended by Tokyo Weekender to visit instead of Arashiyama in Kyoto.

ANA Experience Japan Fare Sales Suspended

Boarding an ANA flight The Real Japan Rob Dyer

ANA's Experience Japan Fare is a great, cost-effective way to explore Japan by air.

It's part of their domestic flight services, and one of a few Special Fares they offer, designed to encourage exploration of Japan by flying with ANA.

However, sales of the special fare were suspended recently, so I've updated my guide to ANA's Experience Japan Fare with the latest on this.

I suspect the suspension is temporary, but you can see if it is suitable for you and your travel plans when it (hopefully) goes back on sale, by reading my updated guide.

I will keep you, and my post, updated on any changes.
