Where to Stay for Ghibli Park, Aichi Prefecture

Ghibli Park Tottoro

Recently, a Travel Planning Support service client asked about accommodation near to Ghibli Park in Aichi Prefecture. (Note: this is a different attraction from the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka.)

He was interested staying in a ryokan if possible, but wasn't sure what the best lodging options were.

There are some practical issues with looking to stay in a ryokan anywhere near Ghibli Park:

1. there aren't many decent ryokan options nearby

2. any good ryokan are no closer/quicker than Nagoya city itself

3. by their nature, ryokan are often not well connected for transportation meaning it will take longer to get the to Park than if you were to stay in Nagoya (and public transit will mostly go via Nagoya for the train connections anyhow).

The train station closest to Ghibli Park is Aichikyuhakuinenkoen station. You can catch a train from Nagoya station to Aichikyuhakuinenkoen station, taking just 49 minutes.

Nagoya is certainly worth an overnight in its own right, so given the practical problems above, I'd definitely recommend staying in Nagoya for 1 night.

Take a look at my Nagoya City Guide for more on what to see and do in the city. It's also known for its distinctive food culture that your children might appreciate.

In terms of accommodation in Nagoya, although not ryokan (there aren't any decent quality ones in the city) these hotels all have onsen:
Dormy Inn Premium Nagoya Sakae
Nagoya Crown Hotel
Nishitetsu Hotel Croom Nagoya

Other quality hotels in the city worth considering are:
Mitsui Garden Hotel Nagoya Premier
The Royal Park Hotel Iconic Nagoya

For this client I'd already built in stays at several other ryokan during his trip, so not being able to stay in another one near Ghibli Park wasn't any great loss.

Big Update to Resource Library (New Guides Added and Redesign)

Resource Library The Real Japan

I've just completed a big update and redesign of the Resource Library.

It includes eBooks, guides, maps, checklists and planners that will make your trip planning easier.

There were a bunch of big (and popular) guides from the site that I hadn't added - such as my Island Guides.

Currently, there's 50+ guides in the Resource Library.

So, not only have I added a whole bunch of new guides to the Library, but I've also updated the design - which should make it quicker and easier for you to find what you want.

All resources are now placed into one of 5 Categories, they are:

  • Island Guides
  • City Guides
  • Planning Guides
  • Experience Guides
  • Destination Guides

and using the table of contents at the top of the page you can instantly jump to and download any guide you're looking for.

The Resource Library is only accessible to subscribers. If you'd like access you can SUBSCRIBE HERE - it's free.
