Kyoto Meet The Locals Nishijin Neighbourhood Tour
with Felicity Tillack

Your Guide in Kyoto
Hi, my name is Felicity. I want to show you the real magic of Japan. What do I mean by magic? There is a saying here: “ichi-go, ichi-e“. It means something that can never be repeated and reminds us to stay in the moment. Aussie by birth, I settled in Japan in 2006, and Kyoto from 2017. Fluent in the language, I interpret for cultural workshops and show you the secret spots. My passion is travel, culture and photography. My goal is to be a bridge, connecting Japan with the rest of the world. Come experience ichi-go, ichi-e with me.

Overview of your Kyoto Meet The Locals tour:
A walking cultural tour
Let me show you around my old neighbourhood of Nishijin. This relaxed walking tour traverses quiet back streets, full of chance encounters and friendly characters – both historical and contemporary.
Some places on this tour include:
- Seimei Shrine – Shinto shrine dedicated to a famous astrologer and figure of legends: Abe no Seimei
- Nishijin Textile Centre to learn about the long silk weaving tradition of this area, meeting Kyoto craftsmen and women performing their art, and uncovering the perfect local souvenir
- Private Koto performance – enjoy a performance on the Japanese ‘harp’ in a traditional Kyoto machiya
- Lunch at a local restaurant (cost not included in tour fee)
- Visit a Japanese “wagashi” shop to see and sample the beautiful, seasonal sweets
- A sneak peak inside a sento – local bathhouse, including both the male and female bathing areas (before opening hours, of course!) to learn about the importance of bathing culture in Japan.
